I got back safe and sound from my quick trip to San Diego. I got to hang out with these guys:
I grabbed hugs when I could:
My hotel room had a pretty good-sized fridge so I was able to store food:
I ended up making my Lemony Brown Rice & Lentil Salad at my mom’s house:
I love that there is no oil in this salad, the “dressing” just comes from fresh citrus juice and chopped avocados all stirred up in the mix:
I brought along some honey dates for dessert (there’s no honey involved, that’s just the name of them):
Plus, we had a big platter of watermelon:
Since I knew I would have a fridge in my hotel room, I brought along some fruit that I ended up blending in a smoothie for breakfast yesterday morning. It was an interesting experience to prepare food in a hotel room, I made a bit of a mess:
I so enjoyed a cold, fresh smoothie, though! I made a video while I was doing it, you can see it here:
I have yet another road trip starting tomorrow, so I’ll be back here blogging on Saturday instead of Friday. Have a great rest of your week and see you back here in a few days!

Awwwwhhh!!! Your kids are so adorable! What a wonderful blessing they must be to you.
I love how you got to bring along your magic bullet so you could make a smoothie in your hotel room. I never thought to bring one of those along when I’m traveling.
It looks delicious! I love how you even made your own walnut milk for it — that is so smart!!!!
Hey Kat! I can’t take credit for the adorable-ness of the kids: they’re my nephews.
What a phenomenal idea!!!! I’m so bringing a bullet to Florida this year in December!
Glad to see the hotel smoothie making was a success
I’ll have to bring my Magic Bullet with me next time I travel!
It wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty awesome to have a smoothie on the road!
I own a Blendtec and make a green smoothie every morning. I’ve often thought of what I would do if I had to travel by plane since it would be diffcult to bring the Blendtec along. Thanks for demonstrating that the Magic Bullet will work in those cases. I mentioned this video to my husband and he said, “That’s really strange, bringing a blender on vacation.” My response, “What kind of world do we live in where eating pancakes, waffles, bacon, and home fries for breakfast is considered normal, and traveling with a small blender so you can continue to make healthy green smoothies is considered weird?”
Thanks Pam! Yeah, it’s a bit weird, but it works!
Hi Carrie, just found you on drfuhrman.com, great blog! Thanks for demo-ing this. Interesting that that little blender was powerful enough to crush ice. I wouldn’t have thought it. I miss smoothies when I travel, this might fit the bill!
Thanks, Donna! The blended did do a surprisingly good job with the ice. I want to try throwing some greens in there next time.
Let me know if you try it and how it works for you.
Love that you made a smoothie from your hotel room. Adorable nephews!
Love the smoothie! When I do road trips, I bring my Vitamix, but I’ve been on the lookout for a good portable one for when I fly. Do you like the bullet? Is it easy to clean?
Hi Crissie! The Magic Bullet is pretty basic, it had a hard time with the ice. If you have a little extra room and don’t mind spending a little more $$, the Nutribullet looks like a good option with a much more powerful motor. The other one I’ve heard good things about is the Tri-Best personal blender. The best part about the Magic Bullet is that it is very small and light-weight, the Nutri-Bullet is about double the weight and much bigger. So, I guess you have to decide which features are the most important to you. I found the Magic Bullet at Costco for less than $50. Let me know what you decide to get!
So I just ordered the Tribest! I checked out the reviews last night, and I think that’ll be a good one for me. It should be here Friday….can’t wait to play with it
