Hello there! I am blogging from Amelia Island, Florida! AND, I have met Dr. Fuhrman!!!
But, let me back up a bit. I am writing this on Sunday late afternoon, I have registered for the Getaway and I am using some free time before the welcome reception to do this post. I think for the next week while I am here, I will write and publish my posts the night before with a re-cap of the days’ activities. If you are a subscriber to my blog, you’ll continue to get them in the mornings in your inbox, although you can certainly visit my home page to see if I’ve published a new post before then.
Here’s my blogging headquarters for the next week:
I left California early on Saturday morning to begin the long journey to Florida. It wasn’t supposed to be that long of a trip, but summer thunderstorms hit in Dallas, TX, so Alan and I were stranded there last night. Note: when I say stranded, we were able to get into a hotel room which saved us from sleeping on cots or airport benches, but it was disruptive nonetheless.
Thank goodness, we were able to be re-booked on the early morning flight to Florida today (Sunday) so we still arrived with plenty of time before the conference officially started. And, best of all, our luggage was waiting for us, too, despite the cancellation and new flight. Phew!
Our room wasn’t quite ready when we finally made it to the hotel nearly 24 hours after leaving our home in California, so we headed out to the hotel cafe to grab a bite to eat. Wouldn’t you know it, while I was totally disheveled, wearing no make-up, tired and wearing the same clothes I wore all day yesterday, I ran into Dr. Fuhrman for the first time. I nearly ran away to hide when I saw him, but my new friend Laura who is also at the conference was so excited to see him that she yelled out, “Hi, Dr. Fuhrman!!!” So, of course, that was our first meeting and he was very cordial and nice and I was too tired to say anything too silly. Funny story, eh? Hopefully, I will get a photo with him before the week is over, but I was definitely not in the right state of mind to take one earlier this afternoon.
After getting checked into the room, showering and conking out for a good hour an a half, I’m more than ready for the conference to start. Here are a few pictures I took while exploring the hotel a bit:
I’m definitely going to make some time to enjoy the pool this week.
This is my first time to this part of the United States. The beach is really pretty and the overall feel of the hotel is very tropical.
Yes! We are at the right place.
Let’s get this party started.
The beach is really pretty. I was thinking about swimming in the ocean until someone mentioned jellyfish. Hmmm, gonna have to ask around and see if that is a risk.
I don’t have any food photos to show you just yet, but rest assured I will be taking shots of all of my meals and notes from the lectures.
For more candid shots of my trip, please like my page on Facebook here. See you tomorrow!

Thanks so much for the message, Jill! The Getaway is fantastic, I am learning so much. I’m so happy to hear that you are doing so well on the program. Keep up the good work!!!
Funny story of your first meeting with Dr. Fuhrman. Glad to hear you and Alan arrived safe and sound
Have a lovely stay!
Hi Oly! I’m glad you liked the story, I couldn’t believe how it happened. But, we’ve met a few other times since then and I was more alert and wearing nicer clothes and make-up.
You seem very nervous about talking with Dr. Fuhrman! Try to just be yourself
Have fun this week, can’t wait to hear how it’s going. Love your orange sandals!
I was definitely nervous, Laura! We’ve spoken several times today, though, so I’m not nervous anymore. He has been such an important force in my life that it was like meeting a hero. I feel so grateful to be here, I feel like I’m getting access to life-changing information and it’s so inspiring to be around other people who are interested.
Yes, isn’t it great to be around other like-minded individuals? So glad you’re getting to experience this life-changing opportunity!
Wonderful to read your posts and see your photos from the Getaway, Carrie. You look radiant, as usual. I’m so happy that you get to be there to soak up all the people, information and food! Looking forward to reading more of your Getaway blogging. Enjoy!!!
