Dr. Fuhrman Health Getaway: Welcome Day Wrap-Up

August 20, 2012

Hello! I hope your week started out great. Did you like my first post on Dr. Fuhrman’s Getaway? I am in the midst of the first full day here, it is AMAZING!!! I am so inspired and hopeful and excited about everything I’m learning here and being surrounded by people who are at every stage of change, from beginners to veterans.

Guess who I met (again) at the welcome reception last night? That’s right! Here’s my proof:

There was a reception before dinner with lots of healthy appetizers like these fruit kebobs:

There was also a table with cut-up vegetables and some prepared items too like a black bean mixture served on an endive leaf and a mushroom pate served on a cucumber slice (sorry, no pictures of those):

Dinner was full of healthy options from an amazing salad bar to hot items like quinoa loaf and cauliflower risotto:

I admittedly filled my plate with too much food; I guess I got a little excited (there is salad under all of that food, I promise):

Dessert was fantastic with fruit options and a blueberry apple pie thingy with macadamia cream topping:

It’s difficult to not overeat, even though the food is prepared with no salt or oils according to Dr. Fuhrman’s guidelines. I want to taste everything and figure out how I can re-create it at home with my own twist.

I met some great people on the first day of the Getaway, including Laura from Australia and Alex from Quebec:

Every person who’ve I met has an interesting story and I’ve been pulling myself out of my shell and trying to meet as many people as possible. Last night ended with some great conversation around the fire pit and then started today with a 6 a.m. wake-up call (that’s 3 a.m. California time!) for a power walk with Dr. Fuhrman. I’ll be back tomorrow with all of the photos and updates from the first full day of the Getaway.

Lastly, I wanted to share a link with you to my review of Rich Roll’s Finding Ultra book on the Our Hen House website. You can read it here AND enter to win a copy of the book; it’s a great read.

Looks like so much fun!! I would love to go next year, if it is earlier in the month. I strted back at work last week.

Having trouble getting back on track, but have stuck with not eating red meat for a couple weeks now so that’s a start. You inspire me to try my best, though!!

Hi Robyn! Dr. Fuhrman also does weekend immersions that might work out better for your schedule. I think he is even having one in San Francisco this year, late November. Keep up the good work, your health and happiness is worth it. I know you had made some incredible progress when we got together this summer and I know you can achieve the results you want, but you have to keep at it every single day. You can do this!!!

I am loving following you on your journey, For some reason, I have always thought you knew Dr. Fuhrman personally. That’s how I feel when I read your blog!!

You are certainly an inspiration. My husband David and I are talking about going to his Getaway in 2013. Is your husband attending, too?

Hi Louise! Yes, Alan is with me at the conference, he took the photo of me with Dr. F. :) That would be awesome if you could attend the Getaway next year, it is incredible, I can’t say enough good things about the experience. Even for someone like me who’s been doing ETL for almost 2 years, I am more motivated and excited than ever. I heard the conference will be in San Diego next year.

Wow that looks so exciting and I’d be the same wanting to try all the gorgeous food. It must be nice to know that you can eat anything on the menu. It’s so great you got to me Dr. Fuhrman too. I have a few of his books and try to follow his principals too.
