Happy Friday! I hope you had a great week. Alan and I returned from Pasadena on Wednesday afternoon, but not before having my LASIK consultation (I’m an ideal candidate, yay!) and having lunch again at the new location of Real Food Daily. On this visit, I had the chance to meet the owner, Ann Gentry. Not only is Ann a complete sweetheart and absolutely glowing from the inside out, but she is a brilliant businesswoman and chef. You can read her bio from her website here.
Here are some more photos from our 2nd visit for lunch. Alan had the El Bandido Rojo and I had the Yin Yang salad with the dressing on the side. Alan was a bad, bad boy and had the brownie bowl with coconut ice cream, of which I had two sinfully delicious bites (don’t miss my post from our lunch there on Tuesday here):
If there was ever a reason to fully enjoy restaurant food, then eating at a 100% vegan place with high quality ingredients like Real Food Daily is the place to do so. I got some inspiration for dishes I can make at home, including the Asian-inspired salad with chopped cabbage and a peanut dressing. I don’t eat cabbage nearly enough and I could definitely re-create this one at home. As far as the burrito and the brownie bowl goes, sorry, Alan, but I’m not even going to touch those. The closest I can come to making that type of food in a healthy way would be my Curried Tempeh Tacos and Dr. Fuhrman’s Black Bean Brownies topped with my Peanut Butter Banana Soft Serve.
Speaking of healthy food, today is another Healthy Vegan Friday! We had 47 entries into our little blog party this week and I want to thank everyone who participated, whether you posted a recipe or were inspired by any of them. We had options ranging from Chickpea Flour Omelettes from Triumph Wellness:
to this BLT Corn Pinto Bean Salad with Raw Eggplant Bacon from the taste space:
The most clicked-upon recipes were these:
- 15 reasons why I eat a blended foods diet: Katherine @ Green Thickies
- Coconut Cream Pie: Rachel @ Almonds & Avocados
- Zucchini Crust Pizza: Lauren @ Oatmeal with a Fork
Congratulations, everyone, on another round of healthy, vegan recipes! If you want to participate in the next blog party, just add your link below.
Before I go, I want to wish my blogging buddy Amber from Almost Vegan a happy wedding day this weekend and many years of health and happiness. I had the chance to meet Amber and her fiance, Matt, last year at Vida Vegan Con, and they are a beautiful couple who have many more exciting adventures ahead of them.
I hope YOU have a beautiful and healthy weekend and I’ll see you back here on Monday.

The food, especially dessert, looks delicious. So wonderful you were able to eat there twice.
I’m having withdrawals now!
Thanks for the shout-out for my BLT salad. I loved the eggplant bacon so much I made it again for some BLT sandwiches with that lovely squash-buckwheat-flax flatbread.
I love it when I can find restos that have food I actually want to eat!
Nice tip on the black bean brownies. I made black bean cookies for Christmas last year that were a huge hit, too!
Mmm… that Yin Yang salad is calling my name!
I eat a lot of cabbage. Just about every day!
What a yummy post!
Thanks for featuring my Chickpea Flour Omelettes! They are my new favorite meal.
I can’t wait to try these, Emily! Thanks for sharing such an awesome recipe.
Aww, Carrie! Thank you so much, from me and Matt both.
Congrats and hugs!!!
Can’t wait to make it to California to try Real Food Daily! Heard so many great things about the food!
Let me know if and when you make it out here!
Woah Nelly that BROWNIE! Actually , every dish looks/sounds amazing – you are SO lucky to have such a brilliant vegan dining option…. there is maybe 2 vegan restaurants around where I am
(But they are pretty good, so I shouldn’t complain!)
Hey Carrie,
This is random, but have you ever eaten Okinawan sweet potatoes? I have had them a few times from the asian market near me (in Northern VA) and they are delicious! I feel like you’d be into them… They have a dark purple flesh and are supposedly real healthy – lots of antioxidants. Very dense and sweet, I feel like you could even make a dessert with them! I’m sure you could find them in the Western US or at least at an asian market.
Amanda
Hi Amanda! Thanks for thinking of me!
And, yes, I have had that type of sweet potato and I looooove them! You’re right, they are so sweet and I love the texture, too.
Alan ordered exactly what Evan did when we were there last! I imagine he loved it bc Evan was raving about it for days.
I took Ann’s cookbook out from the library a few weeks ago, and have loved the recipes I’ve made so far! I agree, RFD is an AMAZING restaurant – and hopefully we’ll eat there again this year after the Walk For Farm Animals (in Pasadena) next month!
xo
Hi Ginny! That’s pretty funny that Evan ordered the same dish. I had a bite and it was incredible. By the way, I might be able to go to the Walk in Pasadena; are you volunteering again?
Hi Carrie! No, I don’t think I’m volunteering this year,
but I’ll be there w/a few other vegan friends. If you make it, we’ll have to find each other for a hug!
Yes, for sure, Ginny! I’m trying to schedule a few other things for October like my LASIK and possibly another health conference but it might just work out for me to be there. I’ll let you know.
